Quartz seeks a journalist to contribute to its distinctive coverage of global lifestyle and culture.
Expanding Quartz’s mission of being a “guide to the global economy,” Quartzy is a new edition focused on helping our readers live well in the global economy, which we launched in November. At Quartzy we obsess over the luxuries that make our lives richer—fashion, travel, food, culture, design, entertainment, books—as well as intangibles such as family, friendships, wellness, and living a “considered life.”
The ideal candidate will be a writer or editor with a distinct vision for covering one or several of these topics, be immersed in the social conversation, and have strong instincts for the stories that engage audiences on various platforms. You might be the person we turn to for an exploration of the roots of the global “wellness” movement; an explanation for why Gucci’s creative director isn’t beholden to luxury’s orthodoxies; or the last word in how to make, serve, and eat hummus.
We are looking for a team player with a fast metabolism, an entrepreneurial approach to their work, and the ability to convey curiosity and humor in their writing. You should have fresh ideas about how to deliver service- and consumer-focused stories to readers, and feel comfortable with formats other than 700-word articles (such as shorter pieces, photos, and charts). International experience and languages are a plus.
