Director, Audience Development

Atlantic 57 is the client-facing agency division of The Atlantic. We draw lessons from The Atlantic’s 162-year history to make organizations essential to their audiences. We are looking for an entrepreneurial, strategic leader to scale recognition of our brand and elevate Atlantic 57 as a standout industry leader. The person in this role will shape and promote our brand story across a number of channels, from editorial strategy to media relations, social media, web, event strategy, and awards. They will be a fearless guardian of the Atlantic 57 brand, with a relentless drive to grow our brand’s footprint.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and manage our communications strategy and external-facing experiences throughout the year. This includes top-level oversight of our editorial calendar as well as leading flagship publishing initiatives that tie to our core value proposition.
  • Develop and execute a media relations strategy for launches, awards, new work, speaking opportunities, campaigns, insights, and events.  
  • Transform Atlantic 57’s external-facing platforms to reflect our rich legacy and market differentiators. This includes oversight of our social channels, newsletter products, and website.  
  • Launch an engagement strategy to recruit top industry talent, in partnership with Human Resources. 
  • Serve as a guardian of the Atlantic 57 brand across all external-facing touchpoints.

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years experience in communications, marketing, publishing, and/or PR roles, at least some of which are in an agency setting
  • Proactively identifies compelling angles and hooks for press, events, and awards
  • Strong industry/trade press relationships with proven record of story placement
  • Management experience and a desire to coach junior team members
  • Robust knowledge of industry conferences and awards
  • Experience working with C-level executives and senior industry partners
  • Passion for the media industry and understands the intersection of brand, editorial, and experience design
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion
  • Strong writing skills
  • Entrepreneurial leanings and a penchant for strategic experimentation
  • Relentless pursuit of the highest standard of excellence
