Quartz is seeking an editor to oversee our lifestyle coverage, and play a pivotal role in our lifestyle and culture edition, Quartzy.
The lifestyle editor will be someone who is deeply conversant with the richness and variety of global lifestyles, who is immersed in the social conversation, and has strong instincts for the stories that audiences find engaging. You’re obsessed with travel, fashion, food, culture, design, and wellness, and innovative in your coverage of those areas. You are at your best brainstorming ideas, working with writers to hone theirs, identifying unique angles, and tying it all together in a visually compelling package. And you’re a meticulous editor—a stickler for clean, stylish writing.
In collaboration with the culture editor, the lifestyle editor will oversee a group of talented lifestyle and culture reporters. These writers are fascinated by the evolving idea of luxury, the ways social media is changing our aesthetic landscape, and the cataclysmic shifts happening in the creative industries. They’re also eager to help readers have a good day, and have advice on how to cultivate a minimalist wardrobe, re-learn the “passive squat” stance, or stock your summer cocktail bar.
The ideal candidate has prior editing experience, with a focus on service or consumer-related topics. This person will view the internet as a crucial appendage, and see Instagram and Pinterest as places to engage, not just observe. You should feel comfortable with a range of formats, including short posts, photos, videos and charts, and letting the story guide you on the best way to tell it. International experience and languages are a plus.
