Associate Editor, UK

The Atlantic seeks an Associate Editor on our global team to help anchor our new London bureau and establish the Atlantic as an indispensable news outlet in Europe. You should be a sharp editor, able to strengthen the work of both experienced writers and emerging voices, and you should value an intellectually and demographically diverse mix of perspectives in the coverage you oversee. Under the purview of our international editor, you’d be responsible for editing both smart, fast-paced, news-driven coverage and ambitious, enterprising reporting and analysis. You should have a well-honed news sense, an ability to spot the signal in the noise and detect deeper trends and patterns in the rush of ongoing events.

Requirements:

Significant experience (minimum 2-3 years) in editing pieces for publication, working with a variety of authors
Ability to work with and develop a variety of writers of different experience levels
Ability to advance a variety of different projects on different timelines with varied scope
Ability to edit stories in different cultural contexts, with an eye both for what’s relatable and universal, and for what’s distinct and context-specific
